Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy - Important Dates

It’s been almost two weeks since we introduced the Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. I wanted to thank you all for your adherence to the policy and your ongoing commitment to a safe, healthy workplace.

As you know, under this policy, municipal employees, students, work placements and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

We continue to work towards full vaccination by December 15, which means the deadline for first doses has now passed (as of November 3).

I’d like to share an important update regarding the deadline for second doses. While it is still possible to get your second dose 28 days after your first, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recently recommended that the optimal interval between first and second doses is eight weeks. As a result, employees who advise their supervisor/manager prior to December 3, 2021 that they have commenced the vaccination process (received first dose on or before November 3) and will be fully vaccinated by January 12, 2022 will not be placed on unpaid leave effective December 15, 2021. All other individual situations will be addressed on a case-by-case basis depending on the individual circumstances presented.

A reminder that requests for accommodation should be provided to your manager/supervisor by this Wednesday, November 10 to allow adequate time for review and processing.

Implementing a proof of vaccination policy helps safeguard our employees and the communities we serve. Vaccinations protect people from contracting COVID-19 or getting very sick from the virus. I encourage you to visit the intranet to access further resources.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards, amitiés, wela’lioq,
